The Shattered Heart by Eric Jarvey

"I started thinking of this piece a year ago. Partially because of the
Brad Paisly song Whiskey Lullaby. But also, to satisfy a need for a
little darker humor, thus the Legend."

Eric Jarvey handcrafted the wooden sculpture named "The Shattered Heart" from Eucalyptus wood. He began by cutting the heart shape and pressure filling it with resin to cause splitting. He then used a vacuum chamber to draw out most of the resin. Afterward, Eric cut the heart into its final shape, sanded it, and applied treatments.

The side posts were also made from Eucalyptus wood. Eric cut them to the desired length, sanded, and treated them before staining. He attached the posts to the heart using both resin and screws from the bottom.

For the base, Eric used recycled ping board, planing it to the desired thickness. He sanded, treated, and stained it using his own mixture.

To create the blood and molten flow effects, Eric hand-mixed and applied resin using a brush until it reached the necessary thickness. Then, he allowed it to set.

As a conscious recycler, Eric used recycled barb wire for the sculpture, although he filed down the barbs or covered them in resin to make them less sharp.

Upon completion, Eric polished the sculpture with his special blend of Yorkshire polish, repeating the process three times before allowing it to rest.
